The trucking industry is undergoing a transformative shift, increasingly recognizing the vital contributions of women.
The annual Influential Woman in Trucking Award, presented by the Women In Trucking Association (WIT) and sponsored by Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) honors exceptional female role models who are trailblazing paths for future generations in a traditionally male-dominated field.

Tracy Rushing, Executive Director of Safety and Recruiting at RE Garrison Trucking, Inc., was presented with this prestigious award.
At the WIT Accelerate! Conference & Expo in Dallas, Texas, Rushing shared her inspiring journey, which began 30 years ago in a scale house and, through perseverance and mentorship, progressed into leadership roles. Her story resonates with many in the industry, highlighting the importance of relationships and support systems.
“I’m incredibly grateful to be named the 2024 Influential Woman in Trucking, but this honor isn’t mine alone,” Rushing stated. “It belongs to all the women who have paved the way and continue to push our industry forward.”
Recognizing women in the fleet industry like Rushing is essential for several reasons:
Promoting Diversity: Increasing female representation in trucking fosters a more inclusive workforce, which can lead to innovative solutions and improved company performance.
Addressing Driver Shortages: With women comprising only 12.1% of commercial driver’s license (CDL) holders, tapping into this underrepresented group can help alleviate the ongoing driver shortage facing the industry.
The statistics surrounding women in trucking are encouraging:
Stop losing money, optimize your operations, reduce downtime, and enhance your fleet efficiency with EMDECS.

During the conference, discussions highlighted the importance of mentorship and community support among women in trucking.
Panelists included influential figures such as Lisa Gonnerman, Vice President of Enterprise Services at TA Dedicated, and Sheri Aaberg, Chief Operating Officer at Transport Enterprise Leasing.
Their experiences underscore how mentorship can empower women to pursue careers in trucking and logistics.
Kelley Martin from DTNA emphasized this theme by stating that being part of a larger community is crucial for progress:
“The finalists for the Influential Woman in Trucking Award embody this vision. Through their dedication and hard work, they are paving the way for women to excel and thrive in our industry.”
Tracy Rushing’s recognition celebrates her unwavering dedication, leadership, and commitment to lifting others along the way. Her journey is a powerful reminder that perseverance, mentorship, and a passion for growth can transform not only careers but entire industries.
Tracy’s accomplishments inspire all of us to contribute to a brighter, more inclusive future for the trucking community, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
